Sprucing Up….Master Bathroom

This Spruce up took a bit of time and a bit of money, but the results are worth the work and the cost.

A toilet plumbing leak in the spring led to the removal of the bathroom flooring to ensure that everything dried.  So we started the Master Bath spruce by putting in new flooring.  We used a product that we have used several times.  A vinyl plank flooring called Allure in Chestnut Oak.

After the paint, I tried everything to clean the mineral deposits off the the shower door. I tried spraying, scrubbing and scraping – nothing worked. Finally I decided to use a vinyl ‘frosting’ product so that at least I didn’t have to look at it anymore. I love the result. We have more privacy and less ugly.

About the same time, we found a second retractable screen door by ODL on Craigslist for a good discount and added that to the outside bathroom door. The screen was torn, but we were able to get a replacement from the company. It’s a wonderful addition to the summer bathroom.

The next order of business was painting. We probably should have done this before the floor, but decided after pulling the trim that the paint needed an update. We purchased the paint from the local Miller Paint store.

Next in the bathroom was to address the tiles in the shower. We had some cracked grout and peeling caulk and it was just dingy and icky. I was tired of dealing with all of it so we dipped into the Spruce-Up savings and called Miracle Method, having the shower sprayed with a Yukon White coating. It did stink, badly, for almost a week and they did have to come out a second time for a touch up, but we couldn’t be happier with our clean, bright and well sealed shower.

The last job for a while will be to tackle the caulking on the bathtub. The tub is a big oval, set into cut tiles so the caulk like is pretty wide. I pulled out some and used a little white latex caul as a stop gap measure, but I need to pull all of the caulking out and start over with some sanded siliconized caulk. Photos to come soon……
