Preparing for Yuletide

Last year we went back to the nurses where we found our 2018 Yule tree. It was a great tree, not too large, not too small, long lasting and easy to get around – perfect for a gal with a bum knee. 2019 didn’t work out nearly as well. The trees were all too big and much more expensive than we wanted, they were also much too dense. We ended up driving around and finally ended up at a U-cut farm on the side of a hill – crowds, noise, cold, rain, mud, slippery, hard to navigate and still expensive – the tree that looked great in the field looked tiny in the house, pretty, but tiny.

This year we were hoping to avoid all of that. It’s a bit early for a fresh tree, but the weather today was beautiful. Joe found a place about 10 minutes from the house but it was U-cut again so I had my doubts. I thought that if the walking conditions were bad again I could just stay in the truck while he picked something. When we pulled up it was great, a nice man that had planted trees on their property, not a huge operation. The ground had grass, but it was not stomped into mud and was pretty flat. All of the trees were the same, reasonable price and, while some were taller than we wanted, the owner said we could cut them off higher up and just take the top. We found a 12-13′ tree with an odd bottom (we don’t keep that part anyway) that was just lovely up above. Hubby could cut it off about 3 feet up from the bottom so there was no lying in the mud and we still have plenty of tree to trim off to get the height right.

We’re not bringing it into the house quite yet so it’s out in the driveway in a bucket of water waiting for us to do a little trimming and get it ready for the house.
