Candied Walnuts

  • 1 1/2 T butter 
  • 6 T brown sugar
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1 1/2 c walnut pieces
  • *1/8 t ground cloves
  • *1/8 t ground allspice
  • *1/4 t ground cinnamon
  • ** 1/2 t ground cardamon
  • ** 1/8 t ground cayenne pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Toast the walnuts on a sheet pan in a 350 degree oven for 5-7 minutes. Remove and cool.
  • Add the butter, brown sugar, spices and salt to a non-stick skillet.
  • Heat over medium until the butter is melted and the brown sugar is just beginning to sizzle.
  • Add the walnuts and stir to coat in the brown sugar mixture. Continue cooking for 4-5 minutes, until the sugar is melted.
  • Remove from the heat and spread the candied nuts out over parchment paper, making sure they are separated as much as possible.
  • Allow them to cool completely.
